The Wasteland

Tree at Craters of the Moon National Monument

Several years ago I was fortunate enough to make a grand trek across much of the western states with my friend and roommate at the time, jimi. We covered about 4000 miles and camped in many different places; this particular shot is from southern Idaho at one of the most intense places I have visited–Craters of the Moon National Monument. It is a black desert of sharp lava far as the eye can see. I’ve never seen a more desolate place. At the same time, though, it had a vivid beauty to it and impressed me deeply. I’d like to go back sometime.
